Welcome to the brand new AFC Cross Keys Website. AFC Cross Keys are a football team that participate in the Wakefield Distrct Football League in Division Two. Originally the team was formed when a group of mates sat in the pub and decided to set up a football team back in 2000. The people that were involved then and deserve a mention are people like Watto, Snelly, Bod and Garry Woods to name but a few. Originally the team was managed by Watto but has since been managed by Snelly, Rich Cloughy and now Gaz Gidman. The team still have some of the original players turning out week in week out, the likes of Denty (I feel Lousy), Poulson (Sick Note), Cloughy (Super Star Striker). Over the years many players have come and gone and even come back. We currently have over 20 players registered some of whom have been here many years.
The highlight of the last few years was when the Keys won the Division 2 League Cup Final against Wakefield City. The man responsibile for getting us there was Ste clough the manager back then in 2003/2004. Having only taken over that year it was a great acheivement for all those involved.
Todays squad still includes many players that featured in that squad including Gareth Gidman (Manager) Paul Wrack (Assistant Manager) Andy Wood (Secretary) Rich Goodall (Treasurer) Chris Dent (Fith Commitee Member) Chris Poulson (Defender) Ray Chadwick (Defender) and Andrew Beaumont (Striker) Unfortunatley the keys never repeated the success of that season and have fallen short of the standards we set ourselves that season. Looking to the future the keys have a very good squad of players that have the potential to achieve things this season if they can battle the inconsistancy issues that have plagued the team over the last few years.
